The Brief

Now 20 years old, Dance City is the lead dance organisation in North East England. Based in a purpose built £7.6m building in Newcastle, Dance City supports professional dance artists to reach their full potential while promoting the art form to the wider community. In addition to presenting a diverse range of performances by reknowned artists, Dance City has a Centre for Advanced Training, links to accredited college and university courses and runs classes and workshops.

Dance City wanted a new website befitting its status as a leading dance organisation which would also increase online ticket sales. The site would include a 'what's on' section, personal pages with user logins to include content reflecting individual interests, newsletter sign-up, a content management system, and search engine optimisation to gain the best possible visibility online.

The Approach

The brief from Dance City emphasised the need for the website to deliver positive commercial results, in the form of increased performance ticket
sales and class attendances and improved customer relationships.
Design was to be visually led, rich in imagery and video, showcasing
both performances and classes.

The structure of the site was designed to enable ease of navigation to the
linked areas of what's on, classes, workshops and performances. Access to the third party box office system was improved to ensure a seamless booking experioence. A full site search facility and a class search facility further assists users to find the information they need.

Regular users can register with the My Dance City service where they
create a personalised area, bookmarking their favourite pages for ease
of access. Each registered user has their own calendar to build a weekly schedule of dance classes, and can network via links to sites such
as Facebook and Twitter.

The Results

Dance City now has a website which has been designed to cater for
the needs of all its users – from young dance students, and keep fit fans,
to professional performers, and their audiences.
